

Emmett Henry Eaton, age 95, died at his home in Riverside on January 10, 2011. Born June 1, 1915 in Stamford, Connecticut, Mr. Eaton was the son of Captain Francis Jasper Eaton from Little Deer Isle, Maine and Elizabeth Quinn Eaton.
Mr. Eaton earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Fordham University in 1937 and his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania in 1939. He began work in 1939 as a Junior Analyst at Shields & Company in New York, then an Oil Analyst at Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Beane. During World War II, Mr. Eaton served as a Transport Commander aboard Army transport ships crossing between the States and Europe. He was also a Liaison Officer at the War Production Board in Washington, D.C.
After the War he served as the Assistant to the Sr. Vice President of California Texas Oil Company. As Director of Membership for the New York Stock Exchange, Mr. Eaton
evaluated companies for inclusion as members of the Stock Exchange. In this position he made many lifelong business acquaintances. From the Exchange, he moved on to be Vice President of Underwriting at Walston & Company, NYC and Manager of Underwriting at Ira Haupt & Company, NYC. Mr. Eaton organized Eaton Associates, as its Senior Financial Analyst, for the remainder of his career. He was a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts until his death.
Mr. Eaton was active in many local organizations including the Riverside Association, the Representative Town Meeting for forty years during which he served on the Finance, Planning & Zoning, Fire & Police Committees. He was Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Town Officers Committee, served on the Building Committee for the new Town Hall, the Budget Overview Committee and the Committee that rebuilt the Cos Cob School.
Mr. Eaton was a past President and Honorary Member of the Greenwich Rotary Club. He served on many Rotary committees and was named a Paul Harris Fellow.
A lifelong sailor, with a great love for the sea, he was Commodore of the Old Greenwich Yacht Club and an Honorary member of the Greenwich Boat & Yacht Club. He served as Vice President and on the Board of the Southwestern Connecticut Navy League. A member of The Corinthians for more than 50 years, he served on the Afterguard and enjoyed many Corinthian Sailing Cruises along the Northeast Coast. Mr. Eaton served as Co-Chairman of the Tall Ships celebration on Long Island Sound in 1976 and 1986.
Mr. Eaton served on the Parish Council of St. Catherine of Siena Church, and was one of the original Eucharistic Ministers appointed by the Rev. Vincent O’Connor and Bishop Walter Curtis.
Later in life Mr. Eaton returned to his early passions of music and art. As a member of the Retired Mens Association of Greenwich’s singing group, The Melody Men, he sang and danced along with friends and neighbors for numerous community groups. Additionally he pursued his love of art by painting a significant number of marine, Vineyard and local landscapes.
Mr. Eaton is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Ann Page Eaton, his daughters Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Eaton and her husband Richard J. Koch, Eileen Marie Bemus and her husband Allen Bemus. He was predeceased by his son John Christopher Eaton. Mr. Eaton is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Timothy E. (Teek) Eaton-Koch, Gillean M. Eaton-Koch, Wesley J. Bemus and Meredith P. Bemus. In addition to his son he was predeceased by his brothers Francis and Ernest and by his sisters Rosalie E. Marsh and Vivian E. Kalb.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside, CT on Saturday, January 15th at 10 am.
