

Lora B. Koenig, a longtime resident of Cos Cob, CT passed peacefully at Stamford Hospital on October 2, 2011 surrounded by her family. She was born January 27, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY to John and Lila Doody. Lora was the loving and devoted wife of Allen R. Koenig for 55 years.
Lora attended Brooklyn public schools. She graduated from Bucknell University with a degree in Education. While at Bucknell, she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She later earned a Masters of Education from Fairfield University.
She began her career teaching third and fourth grade students in Oceanside, LI. In 1956 she married Allen R. Koenig, MD who was a senior staff anesthesiologist and critical care physician at Greenwich Hospital. As a newlywed, she taught elementary school in North Carolina where she established dental health initiatives within her school.
A caring, giving and loving person, Lora is survived by her husband and four children: Lora Robins and husband Ronald of Chappaqua, NY, Robert Koenig and wife Karen of East Boxford, MA, Kathy Cavadi and husband Richard of Fairfield, CT and Allison Mieloch and husband Joseph of Phoenixville, PA. Her family was her greatest joy, especially her grandchildren Jamie, William, Hannah, Ellie, Kyle, Asher, and step-grandchildren, David and Chris.
For decades, Lora was an energetic community volunteer. She taught English as a Second Language, and served as a Brownie troop leader as well as a Cub Scout den mother. She was also active in First Presbyterian Church where she served as Deacon, Elder and a member of the handbell choir. She was a fifty-year member of the Milbrook Club where she enjoyed golf, tennis, swimming, and dinner dances. She also loved gardening, baking, piano, bridge club, painting, dining with her lunch bunch friends, keeping busy, and staying fit. Lora was known for her gentle sprit and heart of gold.
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich, One West Putnam Avenue on Friday, October 7, 2011.
