Born in Croatia on December 6, 1952, she left her home at the age of 18, emigrating to the United States in search of opportunity and a better future. There, she met and fell in love with Ante Salov whom she married six months later on January 16, 1972, an enduring marriage that lasted 54 years, until her death. Through hard work, faith and quiet strength they built a life in Westchester, New York, and together created a home centered on love, sacrifice, devotion and European traditions.
Family was the center of Marija’s world. She loved her children fiercely and celebrated all of their accomplishments. However, nothing brought her greater pride and joy than being “Baba” to her nine beloved grandchildren. She treasured every moment spent with them, delighted in their milestones and laughter, and never missed an opportunity to spoil them with their favorite treats, and little treasures she knew they would love.
Marija is survived by her devoted husband, Ante Salov, her five children, Linda Salov (Tim Hannigan), Sandy Parent (David), Antony Salov (Jamie), Mario Salov, and John Salov (Kristina), and grandchildren, Gianna and Luca DiMeglio, Danica and Delaney Parent, Jason, Scott and Dylan Salov, and Alexandra and Henry Salov.
She was predeceased by her parents, Stojan and Simica Grbic, sister, Ana, brother, Nikola, and her angel twin babies, Steven and Tom.
She will be remembered for her gentle spirit and her devotion to her family. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the loving embrace of the Lord.
