Thelma Rita Toner

Thelma Rita Toner, a lifelong Greenwich resident, passed away on April 26, 2023 at Greenwich Hospital, she was 97. Born August 4, 1925, Thelma was the daughter of the late Charles P. Figliuolo and Florence Graffigna Figliuolo.

She attended Greenwich Public Schools and in 1944 graduated from Greenwich High School. After graduation she was employed at Fawcett Publications where she met her future husband Reginald J. Toner. They were married on July 11, 1953. They had one daughter Margaret whom Thelma loved and cherished.

Thelma was later employed by the Bruce Museum and by the Town of Greenwich Finance Department from where she retired and became a full time grandmother.

Thelma enjoyed gardening, floral design, painting, drawing and playing golf with Reggie. She loved taking care of and spoiling her two grandsons, Matthew and Andrew. In her later years, Thelma enjoyed spending time at the River House Adult Day Center in Cos Cob where she was a client for 12 years and made many close friends and precious memories.

Thelma is survived by her daughter Margaret Toner Wheeler (Kenneth), her sister Gloria Molinari, her brother Charles Figliuolo (Janet), her grandsons Matthew T. D'Autilio and Andrew T. D'Autilio, her nephew John Molinari (Allison), her nieces Karen Clark (Kevin) and Jane Pellini (Michael) and many cousins, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Thelma was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband Reginald J. Toner and her brother-in-law George Molinari.

Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Sunday, April 30, 2023 from 3 pm to 7 pm, at Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch Street., Greenwich, CT 06830.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, May 1, 2023 at 10 am at St. Mary Church, 178 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich, CT.

Interment immediately to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, 399 North Street, Greenwich, CT.
