Dennis James Callahan, 71, of Greenwood, Arkansas passed from this life in his sleep on January 3, 2026. He was born in Malone, New York in 1954 to Theresa (Jameson) Callahan and Chester (Chet) Callahan, who raised him on a family farm with his nine siblings.
Dennis was a jack of all trades, working throughout his career in automotives, manufacturing, and major appliances. He worked at Boscov’s Department Store in Pennsylvania for many years before his retirement in 2015. Shortly after retiring, he moved to Arkansas to be closer to his brothers, Matthew and Peter Callahan.
Dennis was the proud father of two daughters, Lisa (Callahan) Tarbell and Rachael (Callahan) Denessen. He was grandfather to Lisa’s sons, Daniel and Dennis, as well as to Rachael’s son, Rowan.
Dennis’ primary loves in life were Budweiser, Marlboro Reds, and Elvis Presley Karaoke. He often combined all three, much to the entertainment of anyone in earshot. This began as early as his late teens when he entertained his sister and her guests as “The King” himself for Shirley’s Sweet Sixteen and lasted up through the current holiday season. He also enjoyed golf, fishing, and yelling at football games on TV. He would like to take personal credit for the success of the New England Patriots as he coached them to victory from his barstool.
He was preceded in death by his father, Chester Callahan, his mother, Theresa Callahan and his brother, Peter Callahan. He is survived by his sisters, Ann Callahan, Shirley Gomez, Mary Beth Green, Maureen Benedict and Arlene Tyler and his brothers, Matthew, John and Robert. Finally, he is survived by his daughters, Lisa and Rachael, and his grandsons, Daniel, Dennis and Rowan.
A memorial service will take place 10 a.m., Friday, January 9 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel, 137 No. Main St. Greenwood, AR 72936. A service for the family will take place in his hometown of Massena, New York at a later date.
There will be a gathering at Boondocks following the service on Friday.
