Harvie was born on November 29, 1942 in Huntington, Arkansas to H. H. and Mary Susanna “Susie” Hocott Pinkerton. He graduated from Fort Smith High School in 1960 and met Mary Walters while working at the Southwest Times Record. They were married on September 13, 1963 in Stilwell, Oklahoma and remained married until his death. He was a professional driver for 47 years beginning his career with Greyhound Bus Lines in Kansas City, Missouri, and later transferring to Tulsa, Oklahoma. After 22 years, he transitioned to owner-operator of an 18-wheeler and spent the remaining 25 years of his career working for a handful of trucking companies, retiring from United Petroleum Transport (UPT) in 2016 at the age of 73.
While Harvie worked hard and was a good provider, indisputably the most important thing in his life was his family—his wife, Mary and their three kids. In his later years, he adored hearing what was going on in his kids’ and grandkids’ lives. If it’s even possible, he may have loved his grandkids even more than his own kids. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his family. He loved (and was a long-suffering fan of) the Kansas City Royals, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Oklahoma City Thunder. He enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, but especially Iowa State softball and any sport his kids or grandkids were playing. (He did, however, have a distaste for sports officials of all kinds.)
Harvie had a special brand of kindness that is rarely found in this world. Anyone lucky enough to have known him was genuinely blessed.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 13, at McConnell Funeral Home in Greenwood, Arkansas from 1 - 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 - 7 p.m. The funeral will be Wednesday, July 14, at 10 a.m. at Victory Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas with burial following at Steep Hill Cemetery. Services will be under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Zachery Dominguez, Zane Fitch, Connor Dominguez, and Dane Pinkerton; grandson-in-law, Tyler Witte and great-nephew, Jeff Oxford. Honorary pallbearers are sons-in-law, Joe Dominguez and Troy Fitch; grandson-in-law, Eric Baker; nephew, Gary Pinkerton and grand-nephew, Conner Pinkerton.
Harvie was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Roy Pinkerton and three sisters, Geneva Elmore, Pauline Bradley and Imogene Logan.
Harvie is survived by his wife, Mary of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; one son, James Pinkerton and wife, Dori, of Ames, Iowa; two daughters, Krista Fitch and husband, Troy, of Owasso, Oklahoma and Stacey Dominguez and husband, Joe, of Allen, Texas and one sister, Addie Myers of Van Buren, Arkansas.
Harvie was known as “Papa” and “Grandpa” to seven grandchildren, Tory Baker and husband, Eric of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Sarah Witte and husband, Tyler of Ames, Iowa, Zachery Dominguez and fiancée, Alexandra of Reno, Nevada, Zane Fitch of Owasso, Oklahoma, Connor and Chloe Dominguez of Allen, Texas and Dane Pinkerton of Ames, Iowa.
Harvie was also “Papa” to one great-granddaughter, Kamryn Baker, and one great-grandbaby on the way.
He was known as “Uncle Harvie” to numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of the family who will miss his hugs and the way he made them feel special whenever they saw him.
