Joe Homer Lewis, husband of 62 years to Patsy Charlene (Lowe) Lewis completed his journey on earth to return to his heavenly father on June 11, 2016. As a Christian, Joe believed that “We are not human beings having an occasional spiritual experience; rather we are spiritual beings having a temporary human experience”. Joe completed his experience with honors!
Joe considered himself a simple man who loved God, his family, his church, his country and his neighbors. This neighborly love was a two way street as our family witnessed during Joe’s last days here on earth. He was very talented with his hands and started his young working career as a logger in Oregon followed by various other positions to include a skilled laborer building military aircraft, carpentry, construction supervisor and finally the U.S. Forest Service where he retired in 1998. Following his retirement he spent his time raising cattle and completing all the tasks that were associated with being a cattleman.
He was a 32nd degree Master Mason and dedicated much of his life to the fulfillment of God’s plan and support of his church. A devoted member of Pine Log Church, he enjoyed singing gospel solos and with the men’s group. As a result of his love and dedication, Joe was at peace when God called him home.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy of the home; three children; three sisters, Sue Fitzgerald, Emma Mae Spain and Norma Briggs. He was preceded in death by parents, Omer and Mary; brother, Howard and sisters, Dorothy Wilkes and Grace Davis.
He taught his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren that after God, nothing was more important than family. The family that was blessed to have Joe in their lives included three children, his son, Mike and girlfriend, Kim Glenn, daughter, Gail and husband, Kean Cunningham and daughter, Judy and husband, Mike Williamson; his eight grandchildren include Kris and Kyle Cunningham, Chad and Taylor Wisley, Kevin Wall, Michael, Sheena and Maegan Williamson; and great grandchildren include Erica, Haley, Tanner, Christian, Kameron, Asher and Jaelynn. He also had several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Funeral services will be conducted at Pine Log Church under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home in Greenwood, Arkansas on Wednesday, June 15, 2015 at 10 am followed by burial at Pine Log Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Kris and Kyle Cunningham, Chad and Taylor Wisley, Ryan and Garrett Glenn.
