Joseph Nichols “Joe” Smith, 93, of Greenwood, Arkansas passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 27, 2025 in Greenwood. He was the last living of eleven children of William Washington and Clarice (Nichols) Smith. He was born November 8, 1931 in Greenwood. He was retired from Raytheon Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kansas, member of Fellowship Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by one son, Gary Smith of Fort Smith; one daughter, Laura Clawson of Emporia, KS; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Retha Lodema Smith and one grandchild, Joe Clawson.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Thursday, April 3 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Dawson Cemetery in Milltown. Viewing will be Wednesday from 1 – 7 p.m., where the family will visit from 5 – 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, William W. Smith, Grant H. Smith, Jake N. Smith and Dezmond Clawson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ethan McGruder, Adam McGruder, Austin McGruder and Jack Clawson.
