

Miss Lillian L. Gibson, after a short illness, passed away peacefully in McKinney, Texas on Sunday, February 10, 2013, where she resided for the past ten years. Miss Gibson was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on November 22, 1920 to Edward Guy Gibson and Andre Comdessus Gibson. When Lillian was 18 months old, she and her parents traveled to her mother’s home in France to her French grandparents. Her mother died on that trip and she and her father returned to Hartford where Lillian was reared by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Gibson. She attended elementary and high school in Hartford and then Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana. After college she returned to her beloved Arkansas, where she taught home economics for seven years in Hartford and another thirty-five years in Fort Smith. She loved her students and kept up with them as if they were her own children. She loved and was deeply loved by all who knew her.
She is survived by her bothers; Jim Gibson and wife, Joy of Shreveport, LA, Louis Gibson and wife, Sing of Georgetown, TX and the Rev. Jack Gibson of McKinney, TX. She is also survived by cousins, Larry Bowen of Glendale, AZ and Don Bowen of Richardson, TX, both of whom grew up next door to her in Hartford and were like brothers to her. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Jones Memorial Methodist Church in Hartford with the Rev. Jack Gibson of McKinney, TX officiating. Burial will be at Hartford Memorial Park under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be Wednesday from 1 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Greenwood, where the family will visit with friends from 6 – 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Larry Shifner, Tom Corbella, Roger Magness, Dr. David Hunton, Reginald Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Walley Hunton and Steve Perry.
