

Luke Davis, 89, of Greenwood, Arkansas passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013 in a Fort Smith hospital. Luke was born November 24, 1923 in Purly, Texas to William Alford Nixon Davis and Daisey Luke Parker Davis. In Texas is where he met and married the love of his life, Robbie, to whom he has been married to for 56 years. They moved to Waldron for a short time before making their home in Greenwood, Arkansas. The two of them owned and operated Davis Garage, where they also sold bait and tackle out of a side room at the garage. The tornado of 1968 destroyed their home and business, but they rebuilt with the help of friends and the community. After retiring and spending much of their time at the lake, they began working at McConnell Funeral Home, greeting visitors at night. Luke was also a member and greeter at Greenwood First Baptist Church. He loved fishing, camping, gardening and his grandkids; one of his greatest thrills was catching an 81 pound catfish at Wister Lake.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Greenwood First Baptist Church with burial at Liberty Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be will Monday from 1 – 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, where the family will visit with friends from 6 – 8 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Robbie Davis; two sons, Jim Hackney of Greenwood and Jackie Davis and wife, Heather of Greenwood; two daughters, Brenda Brooner and husband, Chuck of San Diego, CA and Darlene Hayden of Greenwood; two daughters-in-law, Bethany Davis of Greenwood and Gayle Hackney of Fort Smith; nineteen grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sons, Jimmie Davis, Jack Hackney and Randy Davis, his brother-in-law, Bob Sadler; six brothers; two sisters and a great granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be Steve Hayes, Harold Scharbor, Randy Carter, Frank Atkinson, Ed Corbin, Kendall Cox, Jim Miller and Dr. Kurt Mehl. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, past and present Sebastian County EMS employees and his many friends.
