Mr. Coan was my bus driver when I first moved to the Greenwood School District. He was awesome! Unfortunately I didn’t get to be in his class, but I still have fond memories of him. He will be greatly missed!

He was a great man. He is missed by us. Prayers for his family and friends.

I just heard about your dad, so sorry for your loss. He was one of my favorites. It made me so happy the last time I ran into you and him at Western Sizzlin and he remembered who I was. I can’t remember half the people in our class and for him to remember someone who passed through so many years ago is truly amazing. He left a big impact on so many lives. Mr. Coan was one of my favorite high school teachers. He had an incredible influence on his students and he will be missed.

I have such fond memories of Mr. Coan and his classes.  He was kind and thoughtful and never treated those of us who didn’t love history any differently than the rest.  I only made it through because he was a great teacher and taught us well.  He will be missed.  Prayers and love to you all in this time of sadness.

I disliked history until I had Mr Coan for a teacher. He made history so fun and interesting. We laughed a lot and I looked forward to his classes. I passed his style of telling history to my kids. My daughter will be graduating college with a degree in history and political science, and it all started with Mr Coan's wonderful way of teaching and making history interesting. One of my all time favorite teachers. 

Mr Coan was an amazing history teacher and bus driver. He was always so friendly, kind and gentle. My thoughts and prayers to the family. 

Mr. Coan was one of my favorite teachers. He made history interesting. I loved the extra credit he would always give, by reading Bible verses.  When I started writing sports for the school paper he was great to help me. I still have the Santa boot  he made the newspaper crew one Christmas, and had filled with candy. He was a great teacher and friend.

I loved taking care of him at Pink Bud. He always had a smile and always said hello to me whenever I worked on a different floor. He always remembered your name. He will be greatly missed💙

I loved history class and all his great stories.  He kept things interesting.   He was great.  My condolences to Chris and the Coan Family.

Mr. Coan was the biggest reason I became a History teacher. I always tried to teach with a similar style to him.  He was such a great story teller you didn't even realize you were learning a subject while he was going. I never could pull it off like him but I think what success I did have in the classroom was a direct result of his teaching.

In history class I remember he told someone "if  you want to sleep in my class that's your choice and your grade but your snoring shouldn't keep everyone else awake and mess up the grade they are trying to achieve! He was a wonderful and funny teacher. He made history interesting!  RIP Mr. Coan. To the family...sorry for your loss!!

Like most of his students, I loved Mr.  Coan. He was a great teacher and funny as well. Besides the History he taught us,  he was the first one who told us that if you bite a wintergreen Certs in the dark, you will see sparks! How many of us do you think went home and gave it a try?! Prayers for the family.

Mr. Coan was my favorite History Teacher. I always looked forward to his class. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Coan. He was one of my favorite teachers at GHS and my Student Council sponsor. I will never forget his toilet seat hall pass! 

The best history teacher I ever had, he made me love history. He didn’t teach just the facts but he taught the story. I used his examples and stories many times as I taught history. I still think of him each time I see Tora, Tora, Tora or Midway on tv.  He was one of the greats.

Prayers for the Coan family. Mr. Coan did make learning about history more fun than I thought it would be. He also introduced me to Mutiny on the Bounty which I still watch every time I catch it on. Very excellent teacher, remember him often. 

Funeral Service

Mr. Coan is survived by five sons, Rick Coan of Muldrow, Ed Coan of Arkansas, Tim Coan of Denver, CO, Chris Coan of Pea Ridge and Rusty Coan of El Dorado, AR, eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Coan and one sister, Carol Mathis.
