Major Samuel Isaac Story, 95, changed his address to Heaven on October 31, 2018. He was residing in Oklahoma City. He was born August 11, 1923. Major Story is a retired Air Force veteran of World War II, Korean and Vietnam Wars. He earned medals throughout his 23 years of service. After his years of service, he also worked for Oklahoma County. His father died young and at the young age of 13 he became the “man of the house” caring for his family. He remained very healthy and active throughout his life and was a vital part of the Hartford, Arkansas community and the First Baptist Church.
Major Story is survived by his wife, Elinor Story; his sons, David and Michael; daughter, Sheila; sisters, Mary Ruth Hawkins and Rachel Platt; granddaughters, Dorothy and Merilee and a great granddaughter, Andrina; stepdaughters, Joy Coker and Starr Riegel and step grandchildren, Christina, Chrystal, Joshua, Christopher and Matthew as well as many nieces and nephews. Major Story was preceded in death by his parents, Vida and Eugene A. Story; his first wife, Dorothy; a brother, Frank and son, Danny.
Funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday November 3 at First Baptist Church 115 W. Main St., Hartford, Arkansas with burial at Hartford Memorial Park under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday before the service.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of the VA Hospital, Grace Nursing Facility (now Fairmont) and Excel Hospice for the excellent care given to Major Story during the end of his journey.
