Tommy Dewey Selkirk, 81, of Greenwood, Arkansas passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at his home. He was born August 15, 1943 in Parks, Arkansas. He was the retired owner of Selkirk Hardwood Lumber Company, member of the Greenwood First Baptist Church, enthusiastically attended the Greenwood Senior Citizen’s Center, was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association of America and was a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Tommy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy Selkirk; one son, Alex Selkirk and wife, Rebecca; one daughter, Scarlett Bone and husband, Jacob and five grandchildren, Weston Selkirk, Easton Selkirk, Darby Bone, Penelope Bone and Ivy Bone and his lifelong best friend, Paul Plummer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice and Al Selkirk and Vernon Hawkins.
As a Christian, there is no doubt that Tommy is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior. His heaven-on-earth was his family farm in Waldron. From family picnics, hunting and fishing adventures, and blackberry picking (and with a little bit of mischief weaved in every now and then, of course), Tommy was never more at peace than when he was at the farm. He was an avid outdoorsman who instilled his love of hunting and fishing with his children from an early age. His family will surely cherish so many of the stories and memories that they have accumulated over the years.
Tommy’s greatest joy came from his five grandchildren. He was incredibly proud of each of them, and routinely joked that he had a room ready and waiting for them should they ever need it. Until his health deteriorated, he took an extremely active role in each of their lives and was a constant presence at school functions, baseball games and dance recitals. He would love to spend summers taking them to parks or to get ice-cream or go fishing. More recently, it bought him great pride when one of the grandchildren would accompany him to the Senior Citizen Center when school was not in session. If you knew Tommy well, you probably heard him declare that he doesn’t have regular grandchildren – that his were extraordinary. The truth was that he wasn’t a regular grandfather, either. He was extraordinary. He was an excellent PawPaw and his grandchildren were blessed to have him in their lives. He leaves behind a legacy of love and his influence will be felt in their lives forever.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday, May 23 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood. Interment with military honors at the Fort Smith National Cemetery will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27. Viewing will be Thursday from 2 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 5 – 7 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Plummer, David Pearson, Weston Selkirk, Easton Selkirk, Charles Cherosky, Phil Jones and James Bone.
