Valerie Threadgill, 69, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 16, 2025 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, leaving behind a legacy of love, joy, and passion that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her. She was born December 21, 1955 in Warren, Ohio. She is survived by her devoted husband of 28 years, Mike Threadgill; her daughter, Monica (Tommy) Terry; her beloved grandsons, Evan (Keshana) and Ethan and her cherished great-grandson, Ezra. Valerie also leaves behind her sisters of the heart for more than 40 years, Deanna and Linda, as well as many other close friends who were deeply touched by her warmth, humor, and generosity.
Valerie lived her life to the fullest, embracing each chapter with enthusiasm and gratitude. Her lifelong love of bowling defined much of who she was—competitive, spirited, and endlessly encouraging to those around her. She was a proud member of the Fort Smith Bowling Association Hall of Fame and made history as the first woman in Arkansas to hold an average over 200. Later in life, Valerie discovered a second passion in golf, approaching the sport with the same determination and joy that had fueled her bowling career.
Above all else, Valerie’s greatest joy was her family. Her daughter, Monica, was the light of her life—the first person who loved her unconditionally, and the bond they shared was a constant source of strength and happiness. When her grandsons and great-grandson came along, the light in Valerie’s eyes only grew brighter. She adored them deeply, celebrating every milestone, every laugh, and every moment spent together.
After retiring from OK Foods, Valerie found her true calling as the Youth League Director, where her love for children and bowling came together in perfect harmony. She spent countless hours mentoring young bowlers, cheering them on, and nurturing a new generation of athletes. To Valerie, they weren’t just league members—they were her kids, each one carrying a piece of her heart and her hopes for the sport she loved so dearly.
Valerie will be remembered for her radiant smile, her competitive spirit, her unwavering loyalty, and the way she made everyone feel like family. Her impact on the bowling community, her loved ones, and the many young people she inspired will continue to be felt for years to come. Her life was a gift, and her memory will forever be a blessing.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, December 20 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Hickory Ridge Cemetery in Lavaca. Viewing will be Friday from 1 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 5 – 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Terry, Evan Terry, Ethan Terry, Alex Hamilton, Billy Hamilton, Matt Sanders, and Ron Sanders.
