Art was born on April 3, 1956 in Sandpoint, Idaho and he was the son of Keith and Melba (Dillon) Stockdale. As a young child he moved around with his family. They settled in Redland, Oregon, where Art graduated from Estacada High School in 1974.
Art started working in construction at the young age of 20. In 1999, he started Columbia General Contractors Inc where he was owner and operator.
Art married Tressie Bruce on August 29, 1987 at the First Presbyterian Church in Portland, Oregon. They had two daughters; Hailee and Madison and resided in Happy Valley for a while. They moved to Damascus in 2007 where Art resided until his death.
Art had many hobbies. He enjoyed the outdoors; water skiing barefoot, crabbing and fishing. He also enjoyed sports and coached girls basketball for his two daughters. His greatest love however, was his family he simply adored his wife and daughters and cherished the time he was able to spend with them. He was kind and good; a genuine role model for his family.
He is survived by his wife, Tressie of Damascus, daughters, Hailee Lavon Stockdale and Madison Lou Stockdale both of Damascus, brother, Bob (wife, Charlotte) Stockdale of Whidby Island, Washington and sisters Joanne (husband, Bob) Hanson of Boring and Linda (husband, Dave) Gregson of Washington.
A Celebration of Art's life will be held at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home on Friday, October 15, 2010 at 11:00 am. A reception will follow in the Bateman Carroll Hospitality Room.
In Lieu of flowers, the Stockdale family kindly asks that donations be made in memory of Art to a memorial fund to benefit his daughters, Hailee and Madison. Donations can be made at any U.S. Bank Branch; make checks payable to the Stockdale Children Fund.
