Pat lived a long and full life, marked with great achievements, lots of joyful times, and some difficult losses. She was born in Forsyth, Montana on December 15, 1927 to Lawrence William and Rose Margaret Schneider Kendley. The family eventually included 4 half-siblings and 5 daughters.
She spent her early years in Montana, growing up during the Great Depression. Times were hard, but the family made the very best of what they had. They eventually moved to Tacoma, Washington. After graduating high school, Pat went on to attend business college, and eventually Montana State College (now University).
Afterwards she went back to Tacoma where she met her first husband, Charles Eugene “Pete” Idlewine. They moved to Junction City, Oregon and eventually settled in Portland. They went on to raise a large family of 5 children in the Parkrose area. Fond family memories included annual trips to Paulina Lake, boat trips on the Columbia River, and eventually deep-sea fishing out of Warrenton, Oregon. Sadly, Pete passed away in 1984.
Later Pat married a long-time family friend, George Morton. She also inherited 2 stepsons and 2 grandchildren. “Grandpa George” went on to become a valued member of the family and was able to become a grandfather many times over! Pat and George enjoyed playing golf and tennis, traveling, and hosting our large family gatherings. They volunteered with SnowCap, Meals on Wheels, and were active in their churches. George passed away in 2009.
Pat lived in Summerplace in east Portland for much of her later years, and then on to Cherrywood Retirement Village. She became a beloved resident to staff and other residents, forging many friendships. She spent her last 2 years in the assisted living portion of Cherrywood but remained almost entirely independent. We are so grateful to the staff at Cherrywood for taking such tender and loving care of her.
Pat was a faithful servant to her Lord and Savior, Jesus. She was a prayer warrior for all of her extended family and friends alike. She always exhibited the values of love, kindness, and forgiveness. She taught her children and grandchildren the same, as well as to value the environment, to work hard to achieve their potential, to find the little joys that are abundant in life, and to have faith through hardships and losses.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, both of her husbands, her daughter, Kathleen (Kathy) Egge, her son, Peter Idlewine, and her grandson, Ryan Ranger. All were difficult losses, but she remained faithful in her relationship with God.
She is survived by her children Mike Idlewine (Dannice), Nancy Idlewine Allin (Deane), Susan Idlewine Gonzalez (Sal), daughter-in-law Liz Enzensperger Idlewine, stepsons David and Daniel Morton, 17 beloved grandchildren, 19 precious great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a plethora of friends. We will all miss her greatly but will continue to carry forward her torch of kindness and empathy.
