Dorothy “Dottie” J. Spence Christensen, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2018 in Riverton, Utah, she was 93 years old.
Born May 16, 1925 in Gresham, Oregon to Robert and Annie (Sinclair) Spence, the youngest of five children. She graduated from Gresham High School, class of 1943. She married Elvin “Chris” Christensen on November 11, 1945 in Gresham. Dottie and Chris moved to San Diego, California after the wedding because Chris was still in the Navy. She described their time in San Diego as a 7 month honeymoon. Dottie was very proud of her Scottish heritage. Both her parents came from Scotland to America on their honeymoon and decided to stay. Dottie was very active with her activities. At 18 yrs. old she learned how to fly and eventually soloed. She was a life member in Job’s Daughters and Daughter of the Nile. She was a member of the Gresham Golf Course Niners for years and played every week. She was also a member of Willamette Valley Country Club for 39 years. Dottie bowled in 3 different leagues and many tournaments. Dottie had 63 years married to Chris and had a fun life traveling to Hawaii, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland and many other countries in Europe. Dottie stated she had a wonderful marriage and was so lucky to have a wonderful husband.
Preceding her in death is her beloved husband of 64 years in 2009, her parents, her sisters, Laverne Enebo and Irene Culley, her brothers, St. Clair Spence and Kenneth Spence.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie Katyryniuk, her grandchildren Kassie Butt, and Patrick Katyryniuk. Dottie adored her 5 great grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews.
She was the best mom and mama in the whole wide world.
Funeral services will be held, 10:30, Thursday, December 6th at Bateman Carroll Funeral, 520 W. Powell Blvd.
