

Dorothy was born October 18, 1924 in Virginia, Minnesota, youngest child of the Kochkas Family. She was a Cadet Corps’ student nurse during World War II. She graduated from Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota in 1946, and then attended St. Theresa College for one year while working as a R.N. She transferred to the University of Minnesota, and graduated in 1950 with a BS degree in Public Health Nursing.
Dorothy married Frank Winczewski on September 9, 1950. They moved to California, then to Oregon in 1967 to raise their family. She retired from the VA Hospital in Portland, Oregon in 1987, and made their home in Lihue, Hawaii.
Dorothy was very active in her church, the Immaculate Conception Parish on the island of Kauai, where she was a very successful fund raiser and grant-writer for their school and parish. Dorothy returned to Portland in 2006 to be closer to family and medical care. Dorothy will be interred with her husband Frank at the Veterans cemetery on the island of Kauai.
Dorothy is survived by her two sons, John Winczewski, of Lihue, Kauai, and Mark Winczewski, of Sandy, OR., daughter, Patricia Franklin, of St. Helens, OR, sister Helen Grigg, of Virginia, Minnesota and three grandchildren.
