Edward Nielson Jr.

Former Troutdale resident Edward Nielson Jr, 88 of Portland OR, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013. He was born on December 6, 1924 in Portland, Oregon to Edward and Myrtle Belle (Soulé) Nielson. He graduated from Portland Union Academy in 1943 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Irene Doris Bauer on March 7, 1949 in Portland, Oregon.

He worked for forty years as an Orthotist for Oregon Health Science University before retiring in 1985. He was a Master Gardener and a member of the outdoor club with Tabernacle Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He and Irene volunteered at the Vista House Visitor Center and he worked on the Canvasback Missions projects. Edward enjoyed woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Gail Nielson in 2008. He is survived by his wife Irene Nielson of Portland OR; daughters Judith Gilligan of Portland OR and Joyce Knapp of Gresham OR; sons Kenneth Nielson of Tigard OR and Gary Nielson of Beaverton OR; brother Dale Nielson of Bend OR; grandsons Will Henton, Mic Henton, Eric Nielson, Alex Nielson, Kyle Nielson and Nathan Knapp and great grandchildren Stylleigh Henton, Dae-Lynn Henton and Eden Henton.

Graveside Services will be held promptly at 12:00pm on Monday, July 22, 2013 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. Arrangements entrusted to Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham, Oregon.
