Eric Everett Granberg, 45 of Troutdale OR, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017. He was born on February 20, 1972 in Gresham, Oregon to Dennis and Deanna Granberg and graduated from Corbett High School in 1990. Eric married Lynne Yvette Heacock on August 18, 1996 at Oaks Pioneer Church in Sellwood.
Eric worked as a lift truck mechanic for over eight years for local companies and has owned and operated On Target Repair for the last ten years. He attended Pathway Church (formerly known as Greater Gresham Baptist church). Eric attended a variety of classes at Mt Hood Community College. He was a certified Toyota technician, and over the years he traveled to many seminars to specialize in lift truck and Kalmar education, he was also a Tier One Master Instructor.
There are no words that can describe how wonderful Eric was. People tended to use superlatives when they talked about him. He truly was the best Dad and husband, and one of the happiest, most generous, and helpful people, he was described by many as a true friend.
Eric lived life like everyone else wanted to, he inspired others to do the same. He will live on in many stories of his great adventures with his family and friends. Eric loved helping people, whether by using his wicked sense of humor to cheer someone up, or by being sarcastic in just the right way, or using his exceptional mechanical skills (which he fortunately passed on to his beloved son Andrew) to repair a vehicle, firearm, or pretty much anything under the sun.
Eric never knew a stranger, just a new friend to swap stories with. He was a great conversationalist and a master story teller, just like his mother. He was so witty and had such a quick sense of humor he would soon determine just how far he could go with the inappropriate joke, he could always find the funny in every situation. (He passed along this characteristic to his beloved daughter Savannah) He could make you laugh, even if your heart was breaking.
Though Eric never served in the military, he was a proud supporter of our country, and greatly respected all of those who served and are still currently serving. Eric has a large and loving close-knit family from relatives to in-laws, he shared a special relationship with many of them. It is a great Blessing that this family is tremendously supportive of each other in this devastating loss.
Eric had many passions, and continued to develop new ones throughout the years. Whatever he was interested in, he immersed himself in learning about, in detail. He loved to be a resource and share his plethora of knowledge with others.
He always said if it had a steering wheel and tires, that was his kind of sport. He enjoyed riding motorcycles from a young age, then moved on to 4wd Toyotas and race cars, specializing in nitrous, suspension, and engineering rollcages. He progressed from street racing to racing at PIR as he became a responsible married man and father. Later as racing seemed too risky for a family man, he moved on to building several long travel trucks, his cool 4Runner, his daughter’s, and even a start on his son’s with many hours of their help. He then moved from occasional target practice to an automatic weapon enthusiast. He embraced this sport with his usual intensity.
The friends Eric made pursuing these many interests over the years, form a close-knit group. These same friends have made themselves available to assist his family in every possible way.
Words fail to sum up Eric, but to try: He was a blast! Literally and figuratively. He loved to make things fast and loud, especially at the same time. He almost always had a smile, and would brighten everyone’s day that he encountered. He leaves an enormous void in so many lives.
We believe his advice to all that grieve, would be to live your life, knowing that there are no guarantees. Tell your loved ones how much you love them, never part ways angry, and don’t just dream what you want to do, go out and do it!
Eric is survived by his wife of twenty years Lynne Granberg of Troutdale OR; son Andrew Granberg and daughter Savannah Granberg (boyfriend Justin Falconer) both of Troutdale OR; brother Brian Granberg (Angela) and sister Lisa Kunkel (Frank) both of Gresham OR; mother Deanna Granberg (Lloyd Katzberg) of Boring OR and many close in-laws. Eric was preceded in death by his father Dennis in 1984.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Pathway Church, 3848 NE Division - Gresham, Oregon. Interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Gresham, Oregon. Arrangements entrusted to Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham, Oregon.
