Erick was born to Theodore and Ida Mae Horsford, in San Diego, CA, but lived most of his life in Gresham, Oregon. He graduated from Gresham High School in 1967, and was drafted into the U.S. Army a short time later. He served honorably, getting discharged in 1971 as a Specialist.
After his service, Erick started work as a baker at Orowheat Bakery, where he worked for nearly 30 years until he retired. In his free time, Erick enjoyed cars and racing. He would join friends for funny car races, as well as classic car cruise-ins. Eric enjoyed cars as a child, too, playing for hours with his slot cars and train sets. He often played Cowboys and Indians, always making sure he was the cowboy, and won. Erick was also generous and giving. He loved kids, and always made sure there were packages at Christmas for his nieces and nephews, even if he couldn’t be there. Erick was a good friend to many. Once you met him, you knew him forever.
Erick is survived by his sisters, Pat Wyckoff of Vancouver, WA, Sonja Petrillo of Sherwood, OR, and Marcia Reed of Vancouver, WA; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on Monday Oct. 31st at 2:00PM. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
