

Evelyn Irene Roberts, 95 of Gresham OR, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. She was born on June 13, 1918 in Allendale, Missouri to Adolph and Edith (Winans) Bram. She attended Lusted Grade School, graduated from Gresham High School in 1936 and also attended Monmouth Normal School. Evelyn married Charles Edward Roberts on November 12, 1939 in Gresham, Oregon.
Evelyn grew up on a farm and continued working on a farm throughout her lifetime with her husband where they ran a nursery and raised berries. Evelyn worked in the shipyards during World War II as a bicycle messenger, was a clerk at Hick’s Department Store in Gresham and was the head baker at Sam Barlow High School from 1970 until her retirement in 1985.
Evelyn was a member of Pleasant Home United Methodist Church for many years where she was active in the choir. She was an accomplished piano player, master crocheter and enjoyed fishing, camping, square-dancing, pinochle and her dachounds.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Charles Edward Roberts in 2004 and her son Charles Allen Roberts in 1967. She is survived by her daughter Mary Ann Baird (Henry) of Gresham OR; sons John Roberts of Vancouver WA and Richard Roberts of Gresham OR; sister Marie Bergesson of Yakima WA; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Evelyn’s Life will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd in Gresham, Oregon. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Gresham, Oregon. Donations may be made as contributions to Oregon Public Broadcasting or to the Gresham Meals-On-Wheels Program.
