

George was born on March 26, 1913 in Vancouver, B.C., Canada and was the son of George and Myrtle (Shaw) McConnell. After high school, he attended the Vancouver School of Art and graduated in 1944 with an art degree.
\George served in the Canadian Army from 1942-1944. He was with #11 NRMA C.D.C of Vancouver, BC. He was awarded the War
Medal for service between 1939 and 1945.
In 1951, he married Yvette Ida L’Abbe in Canada and they moved to East County in the late 1950’s. They moved to Sandy in 2008 and following Yvette’s death, George moved to Gresham. He worked as a sign painter for the 7up Corporation for many years.
George enjoyed tennis, ballroom dancing, music and reading. He was also a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church where he served as an usher and volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul.
George is survived by his nephew, Arthur (wife, Vicki) McConnell of Oxfordshire, England and sister, Dorothy Palmarche of Surrey, British Columbia. His wife preceded him in death in 2009.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 14, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Portland. Interment will be at Gethsemani Catholic Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Signature Hospice. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
