

Jim (James) Milburn Whitehead, 81, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 24th. He was born in Portland, OR and grew up with his siblings in Barton, OR, graduating from Estacada High School. Jim pursued a degree in Business at Portland State University. He worked as a Comptroller for American Pacific Business Ventures for many years, traveling throughout Oregon to multiple facilities. After 20+ years, he went back to school to obtain his teaching degree and pursued a career in teaching and counseling. He spent the next 13 years at Reynolds High School supporting and encouraging many students.
Jim was a well-loved man of God, serving his church in various roles and spent numerous hours working in the nursery. He had a quick wit and was always willing to give a hug. He cared deeply for others and had compassion for everyone he met.
In 1993, Jim’s oldest son Mark was killed in the line of duty as a Reserve Deputy for Multnomah County. He and his wife, along with several other survivors, established the Oregon chapter of C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors). He spent tireless hours serving on the board of C.O.P.S. and supporting many other families who had experienced the loss of a loved one in the Line of Duty.
He was preceded in death by his son Mark Whitehead and his first wife, Bevrol Whitehead and his brother Mike. He is survived by his second wife Marjie (La Count) Whitehead, son Matthew Whitehead (wife Debbie), step-son Darin La Count (wife Jaymi La Count), brother Dave Whitehead (wife Patsy), sister Patsie (husband Marlin), grandsons Aiden and Austin La Count and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 1:00pm - Barton Church, Barton, OR 97009
