

My Dad John Robert MacClanathan was born on June 12, 1944, to Robert and Clarice MacClanathan. He was the 4th of 5 children. Barbara, Elenor, Betty, John and Don. He moved to Portland, Oregon in the summer of 1965 with his friend Bob Mai. My Dad met my beautiful Mom in 1966 at the home of her Uncle Chuck. Dad worked with Uncle Chuck at Nicolai Door. They did not waste any time and were married November 24, 1966, at The Presbyterian Church in North Portland. There were married in the Pastor's study.
He left Nicolai Door and went to work at Container Corporation of America until he was drafted in 1967.
He was stationed at Fort Lewis for basic training. He came home when I was born on February 2, 1968, returned to Fort Lewis and then was shipped to Fort Polk for training to be sent eventually to the Vietnam war. He was wounded in the war and received a purple heart. Dad also received the Bronze Star Medal for and I quote, "for outstandingly, meritorious service as a squad leader int the Company D 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry, 101st Airborne Division. He was discharged in 1969 as Sargent MacClanathan. He then returned to work at Container Corporation of America.
My brother John was born August 10, 1970, and our little brother Jeff MacClanathan was born on July 13,1972. Which completed our sweet family. We moved from our house on Foster Rd New Years eve of 1975 to our forever home on 4332 SE 113th in Portland.
Dad retired from Container June 2011.
Throughout his life Dad had many hobbies from woodworking, photography, camping, going on walks and the most resent was metal detecting. He found many treasures and made friends everywhere he went.
He loved his family with all his heart and would do absolutely anything for them. Our family began to grow again in April 1990 with the birth of his first Grandchild. And he was blessed with more Grandchildren for a total of 8. His first Great Grandchild was born in May 2011 and at this time there is a total of 9 precious Great Grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter Collette & her husband Tim, son John & his wife Anna, son Jeff & his wife Jenny. Grandchildren Austin, Ashley, Mason, Jacob, Taylor, Tyson, Ashton & Aiden. Great Grandchildren Dylan, Haven, Aiden, Charlie Jo, Albin, Jack, Luke, Ellen & Layla.
Our family will continue to grow with a part of Him in every one of us. He will live on in all of us, and he will never be forgotten.
