Kathy Hogland, a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother left this world on August 24, 2024. Kathy was known for her crazy fun personality, and her joyous spirit was contagious to everyone around her. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Kathy was born on December 9, 1953 to Roy and Evelyn Popejoy. She was raised with her 4 siblings in St. Helens, Oregon until moving with her parents to Portland in 1966 where she finished out her school career.
She met her first husband, Richard Cereghino the summer of 1971 and married June 14, 1975. They welcomed their two beautiful children, Angela (1981) and Michael (1984) before parting ways in 1986. Kathy met the love of her life, Brian Hogland at the Portland Speedway in April of 1987 and quickly began their lifelong relationship. They married in their home surrounded by their children and family on May 12, 1988.
Kathy was very proud of her time spent working for the Portland Trailblazers office from 1977-1984. She loved to brag about her time spent working and traveling to support a team she loved to root for. Kathy started working for Multnomah County in 1987 where she met and worked with coworkers that became lifelong friends. She retired from Multnomah County in 2012.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Brian Hogland; daughter, Angela Logan; son, Michael Cereghino (Lindsay Cereghino); stepson, Ben Hogland (Mickey Hogland); and four beloved grandchildren, Kyleia, Vincent, Sylanna, and Nicholas.
When Kathy retired in 2012 she became a grandma and started a new chapter in her life. Everyone knew that Kathy loved nothing more than being a grandma to her four grandchildren and spent as much time making memories with them as she could. She also enjoyed traveling, finding deals at garage sales, camping with her family and friends, and of course shopping. Kathy always had a love for the ocean and spent a lot of time agate hunting and taking pictures of sunsets at the Oregon Coast.
The quote, “To know them is to love them” is the best way to describe Kathy’s personality. Anyone that met Kathy instantly was drawn in by her loving, kind and spontaneous demeanor. Her grandchildren nicknamed her “Crazy Grandma” because she was always being silly and laughing and singing with them.
