Larry was born June 16th 1930 in St Peter Minnesota, living his first 11 years in the Mankato area. He then moved with his mother, grandparents and aunt and uncle to Portland in 1941. He attended Benson Polytechnic High School and graduated in 1948. Larry was proud to have served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed stateside in Biloxi Mississippi, Cheyenne Wyoming and San Antonio Texas, making friendships with buddies that would last throughout the rest of their lives. After honorably discharging, he moved with his new wife Jean and daughter Judy back to Portland to be close to family. Although he had worked for a book binder and Montgomery Ward (where he met his wife Jean), those were not the career paths he chose, instead he signed up for the apprenticeship program for electrical workers. Larry became a successful journeyman electrician for the IBEW and worked on many commercial buildings in the greater Portland area, including the Portland Airport, U.S. Customs building, and he was the head electrician for several years at the Multnomah Kennel Club in Fairview. Larry had a house built in Gresham, where he did all the wiring and electrical work. The family lived on 10th street for many years. Larry was an avid student of history, specializing in post-Civil War era with a lifetime focus of General Custer and the Battle of Little Big Horn. Other interests included mountain climbing, model railroading, woodworking and being a member of the Clan Macleay, both the fraternal organization and the pipe band. He was a member of many organizations including the Scottish Clan Campbell Society, the Shriners and he was a Mason. Along with wife Jean and daughters Judy and Bonnie, Larry loved to travel and camp and would go frequently to the beach, but also went to Canada and back to Minnesota to visit family. In the 80's he went to Hawaii and Scotland. After losing wife Jean, he met and married Suzi. They also enjoyed traveling and went to places including Branson Missouri, Disneyland, and Scotland. Larry was a long-time resident of Gresham and then the Boring and Sandy areas. Larry and Suzi had 27 years together and had recently moved to an assisted living facility in Sandy.
Larry is survived by wife Suzi of Sandy, daughters Judy Craig of Albany and Bonnie Madsen (Lance) of Sandy; his stepchildren Cheri Snyder, John Huggett (Dawna) and Scott Huggett; his grandchildren Timna Williams (Chris), Javin Craig (Lindsey), Alexander Van Patten, and Jean Van Patten; step grandchildren, Branndon Snyder, Amanda Snyder, Emily Snyder, Ryan Huggett, Jared Huggett, Kristal Fitzpatrick and 10 great-grandchildren.
