Mr. Lorne Austin Mitchell

Lorne was born on February 21, 1950 in Portland, Oregon and was the son of Mike and Lois (Hewlett) Mitchell. As a young boy, Lorne was raised in Troutdale, attending Troutdale Grade School and graduating from Reynolds High School in 1968. On December 5, 1969, Lorne enlisted in the Air Force. During his 21 year enlistment, he served tours of duty in England, Germany, Italy and Korea as a packaging specialist for 16 years and an Aircraft Mechanic for 5 years. He retired on April 1, 1991 at the rank of Tech Sergeant.

Following his retirement, Lorne returned to Troutdale and in 1993, he went to work for the Reynolds School District as a bus driver.

Lorne was a member of the American Motorcycle Association and 4-H. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, TV, computers, traveling, camping and square dancing.

He is survived by his sister, Marjorie Mitchell of Roseburg, aunt, Zelma Sutherland of Troutdale and niece, Stefani Sell of New Orleans.

A visitation will be on Monday, October 6, 2014 from 1-5 pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home with a celebration of Lorne’s life on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 1:00 pm also at Bateman Carroll. Private Interment will take place at Douglass Cemetery. Contributions may be made in memory of Lorne to Sergeant McDowell’s’ Military Relief. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
