

A funeral service for Michael will be held Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, 2910 N William Ave, Portland, OR 97227. A private family graveside will occur Monday, October 10, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Mt. View Corbett Cemetery, SE Smith Rd, Corbett, OR 97019.
Michael Nugent was born June 24th, 1943 in Chico California. Throughout his life, Michael was an avid outdoorsman, naturalist, sailor, skier, and hiker. Michael was tremendously hard working, and displayed a unique curiosity for life. Michael attended University of California, Davis and the University of the Pacific where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science. After two years of graduate studies in Cell Biology at Stanford University, Michael attended Medical School at the University of Arizona. He subsequently completed a three year Residency in Anesthesiology and a fourth year as a fellow of Cardiac Anesthesia at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester. Michael worked as a Consultant and Chairman of Cardiac Anesthesiology at Mayo. Later he accepted a position as Professor and Chairman of Anesthesia at the Medical College of Ohio. Teaching and research were his passion throughout his medical career. After retiring, Michael and his wife Naomi spent many wonderful years going between their homes in Montana and Arizona. Michael was a present, committed, caring and loving husband and father who always put his family first. Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Vera Nugent and sister, Nancy Zumwalt. Michael is survived by Naomi, his loving wife of 52 years and their children: Kate Nugent, Amelia Nugent, Mark Nugent (Jessica Kerley), and Michael Nugent (Shannon Nugent), and grandchildren: Ashley, Isaac, Miranda, Kannon, Milo, Thora, Vera, Michael, and Charlie. Michael lived a beautiful and complete life and will survive as a role model for those that know and love him.
