Dr. Myron “Whitey” Dahl passed away peacefully in his sleep in Gresham, OR. Born to Alice and Oscar Dahl in Grand Forks, ND, he moved to Portland, OR with his parents and two sisters when he was eight years old. He attended Vestal Elementary and graduated from Washington High School in 1952. He played center for Portland State College’s basketball team. After two years, he transferred to the University of Oregon Dental School, where he graduated in 1959 with his doctoral degree in medical dentistry. He established his practice near Providence Hospital, where he continued to work for 36 years.
Whitey was known by patients, friends, and family for his lively sense of humor and keen intelligence. One of his favorite things to say was, “Isn’t this fun? And isn’t fun the best thing to have?” He enjoyed boating, cruises, watching football, and especially spending time with his family.
He married Donna Johnson of Clatskanie, OR on June 15, 1957. Whitey is survived by his beloved wife and their two children and their spouses, Kevin and Tonia Dahl (Gresham, OR) and Kristen and Donald Dyer (Terrebonne, OR) and grandchildren Alyssa, Kelsea, Brian, and Archer. He was preceded in passing by his sisters, Beverly Markland and Shirley Heen. He will be greatly missed by all his family and their wide circle of friends.
A celebration of Whitey’s life will take place at the family home on August 22 from 2 – 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Providence Hospice or the Oregon Humane Society.
