

Norma was born on January 6, 1929 in Portland, Oregon and was the daughter of Clay and Edna (Cox) Richards. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1947 and on August 26, 1950 she married Pat McPhail at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Portland, Oregon.
Norma’s most important occupation was that of a homemaker. She raised her three children and cared for their Portland Home. After her children reached school age, Norma went to work as an Executive Assistant for Springdale Job Corp. She retired in 1994 after 17 years of employment.
Norma had many hobbies. She was very athletic and enjoyed softball, skiing and swimming. She also took a lot of pride in her yard and garden. Norma was a hard worker, a dedicated wife and mother and a supportive friend. She was giving and kind; A gentle soul that saw the good in everyone. She also saw the good in animals that needed love and care. She loved her pets and made a home for lost stray animals that needed a good home.
Norma is survived by her husband, Pat of Portland, son, Kevin McPhail of Portland and daughters, Kim Crawford of San Clemente, CA and Shannon Bohrer of Gresham along with 5 grandchildren. Her siblings, Vern Richards, Jack Richards, Harry Richards, Riley Richards, Lucille Long and Dorothy Weaver all preceded her in death.
A celebration of Norma’s life will be on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham. Contributions may be made in memory of Norma to the Oregon Humane Society. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
