Patricia Ann Ruter

Born on June 14, 1942, in San Francisco, California, Pat lived a life marked by dedication to her family, community, and the many lives she touched along the way.

Pat graduated from Balboa High School in San Francisco before embarking on a journey of meeting and marrying her late husband Donald “Don” Ruter. That would lead her to Ohio where they adopted their daughter Samantha. As a family they moved to Oregon, where there, alongside her husband Don aka “The Candy Man”, she owned and operated the beloved Oregon Candy Farm. Through this venture, Pat not only delighted countless customers with sweet treats but also created a welcoming space that became a cherished part of the local community.

Her commitment to helping others extended far beyond her professional endeavors. Pat was deeply involved in her community and dedicated much of her time to supporting those in need. She co-founded a grief support group with Mount Hood Hospice and created the Prime Timers Dining Group. These efforts reflected her caring nature and desire to bring comfort and connection to others during challenging times.

Pat’s warm sense of humor and vibrant personality left an indelible mark on everyone who has had the privilege of knowing her. Her ability to uplift those around her was matched only by her love for her family. She is survived by her daughter Samantha Sonnichsen; granddaughter Claire Sonnichsen; and grandson Cole Sonnichsen; God daughter Kathe Rowan and several other family members. She was predeceased in death by her husband Don Ruter and her parents Samuel and Sarah Bardi.

Pat will be remembered for her kindness, humor, and tireless contributions to the community and people she loved so dearly. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her. May Pat’s words be the legacy she leaves with us all, “Tell someone today that you love them!”.

A Celebration of Life will be announced later. Those wishing to honor Pat’s memory may consider a donation to Legacy Hospice or Mount Hood Hospice, two services deeply meaningful to her and her loved ones.
