Ronald Nicholas Clawson

Ronald “Ron” Clawson, born in 1947 in Gresham, Oregon, passed away surrounded by love and admiration. A man of extraordinary spirit and unwavering positivity, Ron left a legacy of joy, adventure, and inspiration that touched countless lives.

Ron graduated from Gresham High School in 1968, where he first showcased his tenacity and zest for life. He went on to OCE (now known as Western Oregon University), earning a degree in education that would serve as the foundation for a remarkable career in teaching and leadership. He returned to his roots, teaching 6th grade at Hollydale in 1972 before rising to the role of principal at West Gresham. He then moved to North Gresham where he created the first computer lab in the district. He was beloved by faculty, staff, and students alike for his quick wit, boundless energy, and creative approach to special events that became the hallmark of his tenure.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ron’s fierce competitive spirit shone in his years on the men’s morning basketball games, where his lethal jump shot and “leave-it-all-on-the-court” attitude became legendary. He later taught these skills to many children including his own and his grandkids.

In 1995??, Ron moved to Bend, Oregon, embracing the mountain lifestyle and building a thriving car dealership that exemplified his entrepreneurial spirit. Later, with his sights set on new adventures, Ron sold the business and relocated to Costa Rica, where he pursued surfing, painting, and a deep appreciation for Latin culture.

In 2005, Ron returned to Gresham, Oregon, to reconnect with his roots and provide his youngest son, Ronald (Xavy), a clear path to higher education at University of Oregon, where he will proudly graduate in a few years. Ron was a devoted father to three incredible children—Bret Clawson, Cari (Clawson) Walsh, and Xavy Clawson and grandfather to Luke, Sam, Jack, Taylor and Ellie whose lives reflect his unwavering love and guidance.

Ron was a man of extraordinary strength, resilience, and an unmatched ability to find joy and fulfillment in every chapter of life. His work as an educator shaped generations, his entrepreneurial journey exemplified the American dream, and his adventurous spirit inspired those around him to push boundaries and embrace life’s possibilities.

Ron, you lived every day with a forward-looking perspective and an indomitable fight to thrive. You leave behind a world better for your presence and a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew you.
