Shalene Rene Newland

Shalene was born on July 5, 1994 in Olympia, WA to Royce Mayo and Tamara Rene Newland and attended Franklin High School. She loved being creative and used that creative skill working for Wal-Mart in the Bakery department and then most recently for Voodoo donuts.

Shalene was a social butterfly, friend to everyone who crossed her path. She was in a two and a half year relationship with her boyfriend Jesse Jasso-Varsamas, and you rarely saw them apart.

Shalene was adored by her siblings and her dog Sammy. She enjoyed rock-hounding, camping and had a enthusiastic love for anything “Hello Kitty”, she had a large collection of Beanie Babies, and stuffed animals of all kinds. She loved taking pictures and had a very artistic eye for capturing moments that the common eye might have missed. She was a caring and loving daughter to her parents, and a fierce protector of her siblings.

She is survived by her father Royce Mayo and Jodi Bullock of Happy Valley OR; her mother Tamara Newland of Tumwater WA; her twin sister Kaile Newland of Portland OR and her little sister Charla Mayo of Happy Valley OR; her brothers Joey Olmstead of WA, and Justin Mayo of Portland; by her grandmothers Virginia Elouise James of Medford OR, and Barbara Bullock of Phoenix OR; niece Mira Lynn Mayo of Portland as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Her brother Brandon Lee Mayo, and her boyfriend Jesse Jasso-Varsamas, died with Shalene. Her grandmother Carol Newland of Tumwater WA preceded her in death.
