

Raised in Washington, DC, his mother was Esther Edmonds Fahey, a well-known artist and portrait painter, and father, William Charles Fahey, one of the founders of the first United States Air Mail. The family resided in Washington, DC and summered in Ocean City, NJ. Charles served during World War II as a second class motor machinist mate with the U.S. Coast Guard. After the war, he married his sweetheart, whom he met in Ocean City, NJ, Mary Jane Jackson of Folsom, PA. They were married at the United Methodist Church in Ocean City, NJ. He and his bride resided in Rockville, MD where he was instrumental in the establishment of Seven Locks Road Baptist Church. His family later moved to Chevy Chase, MD and spent their summers in Avalon, NJ. Charles had a successful career with the Chesapeake and Potomac Phone Company starting as a “pole climber” and moving up to General Commercial Manager. He had a significant role in the conversion to dial operation. Upon retirement they relocated to Hilton Head, SC. Charles and Mary Jane volunteered faithfully at the Bargain Box which is responsible for large donations for many local charitable organizations. He was a founding member of Christian Renewal Church where he served many years as an elder. After 30 happy years in Hilton Head, he and his wife moved to Griffin, GA where they attended Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and are current members of Second Baptist Church. Charles was a devoted husband to his bride of 68 years and a dedicated father and grandfather. He shared the gospel of Christ through his patient love and encouragement.
Serving family: wife, Mary Jane Fahey; daughter, Nancy Harrington (Steve) of Sunnyvale, CA and their children, Alison (Bryon) and great-granddaughters, Naomi and Julia Grace; grandson, Matthew Harrington (Elizabeth) of Elk Grove, CA and great-grandchildren, Scarlet and Finn; granddaughter, Jenny Harrington of Sacramento, CA and great-grandchild, Jameson; daughter, Janet McDougal (Kent) of Griffin, GA and grandchildren, Mary Beth, Esther, and Samuel; son, Richard Fahey (Maria) of Brooklyn, NY and grandchildren, Theodore and William; sister, Evelyn Pankow (Gene) of Stockton, CA; nieces, Teri Kowsaluk (Vic) of Atlantic Highlands, NJ, Lisa Hanna (Phil) of Fayetteville, GA, Casey Threatte (Jim) of Lovettsville, VA and Robin of Mechanicsville, VA and great-nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of the life of Charles Edmonds Fahey on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church, 501 West Broad St., Griffin, GA 30223. The family will receive visitors 30 minutes prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mr. Fahey’s name to The Master’s Builders of the Flint River Baptist Association, 568 Baptist Camp Rd., Griffin, GA 30223.
