

Mrs. Whitehurst was born February 8, 1924 in Thomaston daughter of the late William Cook, Sr. and the late Mary Lou Campbell Cook. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Griffin Ward. She and her husband owned and operated the Dixie Cream Donut Shop for many years. Together they raised 10 children. Mrs. Whitehurst loved to fish and read and was known for her homemade quilts, embroidery and crochet. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Radcliff Whitehurst, Jr.; son, Tom Bradley Whitehurst and daughter, Cherrie Rea Kamery.
Survivors include children & spouses, Jesse Radcliff Whitehurst, III and Annette, Brenda Gail White and Jackie, Michael Wayne Whitehurst and Mary Ann, Gregory Elige Whitehurst, Sr. and Beth, Wanda W. Cavender and Mike, Dana Marcus Whitehurst, Timothy Grantland Whitehurst and Carolyn and Tyler Andrew Whitehurst; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren, and nieces & nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ellen Cook Whitehurst will be held Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Griffin Ward. Bishop Ben Allred will preside. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
