

ROBBIE, ARTHUR E. July 12, 2011 Age 83 Beloved husband of Patricia. Dear father of Gail Robbie, Kris Robbie (Raili), Jill Lesperance, Jane Fisher (Paul) and Julie Girard (Dave). Loving grandfather of Aaron, Ryan, Jayme, Pat, Craig, Hilary and Abby. Brother of the late Dolores Czarnik. Private services have been be held. Sports Affiliation Mr. Robbie was an amateur Army boxer over a period of 14 years. His amateur boxing career was started in 1938 at Koscuiszko School in Hamtramck, by his first boxing coach, John Tishuck, who was also his Scoutmaster and physical education teacher at Koscuiszko. Arthur was undefeated at Koscuiszko School. He boxed in the intramural program at Copernicus School and was undefeated. Boxed for the late, Arthur Rooks, in the Boys Club Program and was undefeated. Boxed in the Hamtramck High School intramural program and lost three fights. Education Hamtramck High graduate and President of his class for three semesters, including the 1947 graduation class. Alumni of St. Mary's College, Orchard Lake, MI. Graduate of American Management School. U.S. Army Boxer During the Korean Conflict In 1950 Robbie was a member of the Army Special Services Boxing Team in Fort Sill, Oklahoma as the Ft. Riely, Kansas Middleweight Champion. The boxing team had bouts throughout the country in various Army Camps. In 1951 Robbie was featured in the main event at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and won the Ft. Sill Light Heavyweight Championship by a K.O. over Al Garza of Dallas, Texas. Robbie finished his Army boxing career as an undefeated middleweight in 1952. His Army boxing record career record was 47 wins, 1 loss and his overall record was 80 wins, 4 losses. He was never K.O.'d. He was trained by the great professional trainer Al DeNapoli, who trained 3 world champions, Jake LaMotta, Middleweight Champ Bob Foster, Light Heavyweight Champ and Sammy Angott, Light Heavyweight Champ. Also, Charlie Bellanger, former Heavyweight Champ of Canada was another trainer. Business and Civic Robbie was former Hamtramck Civil Service Police and Fire Commissioner in 1960 through 1963. Received civilian citation for bravery from the Detroit Police Department in 1970 for apprehending a dangerous armed felon, who had knocked down a woman and stolen her purse, containing $190. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Associated Food Dealers of Michigan. Robbie saved four people from choking, using the Heimlich Maneuver. Robbie was employed by Hiram Walker, Inc. for 34 years. He was the Executive Relations Manager. His duties included reporting directly to the Chairman and President of Hiram Walker. He is a member of the prestigious Canadian Club Society, and was a recipient of the Hiram Walker Cordial Man of the Year award in the USA. Robbie was a former Board of Director for the River House Cooperative for 12 years, and elected President for a one year term by his colleagues, on the Board. He was also the campaign manager for the Hon. Thomas Van Tiem, Judge 36th District Court, Michigan. He directed two successful campaigns starting with the first one in 1982. The Hamtramck Citizen and the Hamtramck Plain Dealer Newspapers wrote about his Army boxing endeavors with pictures in 1950 and 1951. In 1980 he captured a thief burglarizing his apartment, by knocking him out with one punch to the neck. Robbie and his wife, Patricia, formerly of England, are the proud parents of five children and grandparents of seven grandchildren.
