
Bernice V. Phillips (nee Ferenc) died peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Henry Ford Hospice in Southfield. Bernice was born on August 1, 1924 in Hamtramck, Michigan, the daughter of Peter Ferenc and Julia Ferenc (nee Dudek). Bernice was employed at the Chevrolet Plant in Hamtramck. Upon marriage Bernice became a housewife whose interests and talents included needlepoint, painting, and gardening. She was a member of the National Herb Society, Detroit Garden Club, and Greenfield Village Gardens. Bernice sang in the GM Choir and had a role in the Clint Eastwood movie "Gran Torino". Bernice was a true "animal lover" caring for strays and her own pets Nita, Muffin, Kitty, Sammy, Sadie, and Pumkin. Mrs. Phillips is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a great great nephew in addition to friends near and far. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley W. Phillips; her parents, Peter and Julia Ferenc and siblings, Louise Ferenc, Frances Pius, John Ferenc, Stanley Ferenc, and Joseph Ferenc. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. A scripture service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. She will lie instate at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 15004 Hampton, Grosse Pointe Park from 10:30 a.m. Wednesday until mass at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Fr. Timothy Pelc will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials be made to Michigan Humane Society, c/o Development Department, 30300 Telegraph Road, Suite 220, Bingham Farms, MI 48025 or The Herb Society of America, 90109 Kirtland Chardon Road; Kirtland, Ohio 44094.
