Carlton H. Kammer, Jr., 75, of Troy, MI passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2020, after battling health issues since August of last year. He was born on July 9, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan, to Carlton and Magdalene Kammer.
He graduated from Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Michigan, where he played trombone in the Concert Band. Carlton then matriculated to Wayne State University, where he lettered in Crew and lived with the rowing team on Belle Isle. Once he earned his Bachelor’s Degree, Carlton embarked on a career in the IT industry that would take him all over the globe, eventually retiring as a project manager.
Carlton married Carolyn Dettloff on October 14, 1967 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They welcomed two sons, Carlton III and Michael. He became a devoted family man who taught himself the (at the time) completely foreign sport of soccer solely so that he could then coach each of his sons in the game. He also joined Indian Guides with his sons so that he could lead them on numerous camping adventures.
He and Carolyn also loved taking their children on vacations all around the country, including several memorable trips to Disney World.
Carlton pursued a wide range of interests including photography, cooking, gardening, and music. And everyone who knew Carlton knew that there was never a local garage sale or flea market that he didn’t wander through, often finding treasures that no one else noticed.
Carlton was an avid fan of Detroit Sports teams, particularly the Lions and Tigers, and he loved watching games with his children and grandchildren.
Carlton, Carolyn, Carlton III, and Michael have been members of Cross Lutheran Church for more than 40 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn A. Kammer; his 2 sons, Carlton H. Kammer III ( Katie Marie), and Michael P. Kammer (Margaret Mary); his four grandchildren, Hannah, Carlton IV, John, and Mickey; his brother and sister, Joel Kammer (Linda) and Kathryn Cory (Larry); and his sister-in-law, Judith Dettloff. He is also survived by a niece and nephew, Tiana and Matthew.
Aside from his parents, Carlton was preceded in death by a brother, John Kerry Kammer.
Funeral services will be private for his immediate family at the graveside. Carlton will be laid to rest at Cadillac Memorial Gardens – East.
Arrangements and care provided by A.H. Peters Funeral Home of Grosse Pointe Woods.
