David Riley Thomas, 79, devoted husband to Anne Thomas for 53 glorious years, Loving father to David (Lisa) Thomas and Kathryn (Jim Umble). Grandfather to Emily and Elizabeth Thomas and John Umble. He passed away August 15, 2010. He was an educator for 41 years and taught mathematics his last 31 years at Brownell Middle School in Grosse Pointe Farms. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Valparaiso University in Indiana and completed his graduate work at the University of Michigan where he met his wife Anne (nee Nemec). He was an active member of Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church, Detroit. He and his wife Anne have resided in Grosse Pointe for the last 46 years. Memorial service to be held 11:00 am Saturday August 21, 2010 at Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church 8625 East Jefferson, Detroit. In lieu of flowers tribute donations may be made to the Detroit Institute of Arts .
