Edward Van Hull Jr., age 62, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2018 at St. John Hospital in Detroit. Ed was born on September 10, 1955 in Grosse Pointe to the late Edward Sr. and Elizabeth Van Hull. Ed was a lifelong resident of St. Clair Shores, and was connected to the Metro Detroit community in many different ways. He was a proud 1973 graduate of Lakeview High School, and was a 3 year varsity hockey player. His love for the game continued on the canals of St. Clair Shores, and even having the opportunity to skate with the late great Gordie Howe. Eddie was a proud member of Local #38 Stagehands for over 42 years. Ed and his fellow locals had their hands on most of the iconic shows and productions in the Detroit area. From concerts, Broadway productions, to ballet…..Eddie was an expert on all things stagehand related. Eddie was affectionately known as "The Hurricane" around the local for his bullish spirit. He loved the water, and often seemed most at peace while sailing or motoring along in one of his many Chris-Crafts. He often referred to himself as a pirate born in the wrong era. He also loved the idea of selling everything and moving to the Florida Keys and living on a boat to escape the harsh Michigan weather. Ed was a great storyteller and loved when a crowd gathered to hear his stories from the past. He loved to reminisce about the good times of the past. Ed would always end his stories with his iconic laugh. He was good for a bear hug, a noogie, and a stern tone. His family was the most important part of his life, and he took comfort in knowing he was surrounded by people that truly loved him. Ed is the beloved father of Alexandra (Michael) Giangrande and Edward "Wyatt" Van Hull. Big beloved brother of JoAnn (Chip) Flynn, Liz (Frank) Skotzke, Paula Vant Hull, and Jaci (Warren) Wilson. Dearest grandfather of, Fiona Giangrande. Lifelong friend of Melodee Wieske. Also survived by other close family and friends. Preceaded in death by his parents, Elizabeth "Betty" and Edward Van Hull Sr. The family will honor Eds life at the Jefferson Yacht Club, 24504 Jefferson, St. Clair Shores, on Sunday, July 22nd at 2pm. The family invites friends and neighbors to gather from 1-2pm prior to the service to share memories. Interment, private. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
