

The Reverend Edwin A. Frey aged 95 years and 9 months, entered into his eternal home on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. The son of the late Rev. Oscar and Mrs. Frey was born in Saginaw, Michigan on May 6, 1918. He graduated from Michigan Lutheran Seminary (Saginaw, Michigan) in 1939, from Northwestern College (Watertown, Wisconsin) in 1939, and from The Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary (Thiensville, Wisconsin) in 1942. He served as vacancy vicar at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Detroit, and was ordained into the Office of the Holy Ministry at Salem Lutheran Church in Scio Township. In 1944 he was installed as the pastor of Ascension Lutheran Church in Detroit. He was called to serve as the pastor of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Detroit in 1955, which he faithfully served until his retirement in 1991. Pastor Frey married Ruth Schroeder in 1946. God blessed their marriage with four children: Thomas, Janet (Rev. Martin Schoell), Karen and Rev. James. He also gave them 8 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to his faithful service in the Office of the Holy Ministry, Rev. Frey enjoyed photography, golfing, wood working, crossword puzzles, reading, and listening to classic music. Visitation Sunday 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. Funeral Monday at Mt. Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4444 Radnor, Detroit 48224; instate 10:00 am until time of service 11:00 am. The Reverend Kenneth Jahnke will be officiating. Burial will take place at Glen Eden West Cemetery. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.
