

Born and raised in Detroit, MI, Elaine grew up alongside her six siblings on Wayburn St. on the east side. She attended East Commerce High School and went on to work at the Office of Civil Defense in downtown Detroit.
She married the love of her life Jacques (Jack) Maes on June 21st, 1958, and had 38 beautiful years of marriage until his death in 1996.
Elaine was a devoted wife and mother and loved spending time with family. She was an avid reader, loved doing crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and was a talented painter. She will be sorely missed for her warm, fun loving and quick-witted personality, and also for her delicious cooking.
She is predeceased by her parents, Remi and Emma Vandenheede, her husband Jacques Maes, her brothers Richard, Arthur, Henry and Thomas Vandendheede, her sisters Jeanne Suminski, Sister Mary Suzanne Vandenheede OSM, and Shirley Vandenheede.
She is survived by her children Michael Maes (Juliet), Mark Maes (Alicia), Yvonne Maes-Nazareth (Andre), Eric Maes (Joelle) and Christine Maes-Lemanski (Scott). Also survived by her grandchildren Evan (Caitlyn), Brittany, Tiffany, Martine, Dominique, Zeke, Stella and Charlie, and her great-granddaughter Frances; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at A.H. Peters Funeral Home in Grosse Pt. Woods, MI on Wednesday, June 4th from 3pm -8pm. Funeral services to be held on June 5th at St. Clare of Montefalco Church in Grosse Pt. Park, MI, lying in state at 10:00 am and mass at 10:30am.
