Elizabeth "Lisa" Seymour Shook passed away peacefully in her sleep after a decade long battle with breast cancer in the early hours of March 8, 2016. Lisa was born April 24, 1958 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of John and Joan Seymour, the younger sister of Susan Solner. She graduated from Grosse Pointe North High School in 1976. Lisa went on to receive a B.A. in Early Childhood Development from Hillsdale College and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Lisa and Mark were married for 26 years and shared two lovely daughters, Elizabeth, age 25, and Sara, age 22. Lisa was also the proud mother of several pets throughout her lifetime, most recently her precious dogs Divot and Marley. She was employed in the Grosse Pointe Public School System since 2006, serving as a teacher's assistant for special needs children. Lisa was an avid watcher of HGTV and the Syfy Network. She had a strong passion for interior design and would rearrange her house on a bi-weekly basis. One of Lisa's favorite pastimes was watching videos of puppies on the internet, showing them to anyone around her even if they had seen it 10 times before. She single-handedly decorated the house for Christmas every year, redoing the ornaments others had placed before her because she knew best. She also took great pride in caring for her yard, planting flowers and bushes, moving patio furniture, and attempting to repair the damage wreaked by Marley and Divot. Lisa was a strong, protective, loving mother who put her daughter's happiness before her own at every opportunity. She was a doting sibling and daughter, willing to help her family whenever needed. Lisa had strong faith and a lot of sass, which helped her greatly outlive her initial prognosis. Lisa is survived by her husband, Mark, her daughters, Elizabeth and Sara, her mother, Joan Seymour, and sister, Susan Solner (Michael). Lisa was predeceased by her father, John Richard Seymour. Lisa's visitation is scheduled for Friday, April 1 from 4:00 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236. Lisa's memorial mass will be Saturday, April 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church located at 438 St. Antoine St. Detroit, MI, 48226. Donations may be made to Ss. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church or it's Pope Francis Center at the same address.
