It has pleased the Lord of Life to summon out of this vale of tears and unto Himself in heaven the soul of our dear sister in Christ, Elizabeth (Betty) Wahl, who was born in Harrison Township, MI on the 28th day of August in the year of our Lord 1928, the daughter of Erwin and Elizabeth Kaufmann. Betty was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at Redeemer Lutheran Church, St. Clair Shores, MI on September 29, 1929. Betty moved with her family to their home on Rosemary Street in the Connor/Gratiot area on Detroit's East Side and attended The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Dickerson and Elmdale Avenues, and confirmed her baptismal faith on Palm Sunday, April 18, 1943, The Rev. Dr. E.H. Buchheimer officiating. She attended Detroit Lutheran High School on West Grand Boulevard and graduated Thursday, June 12, 1947. Betty was united in Holy Matrimony to Gerald P. Wahl at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Regent and Bringard Avenues in Detroit on January 20, 1951, Pastor E. N. Schulte officiating. Their marriage was blessed with the gift of four children: Gary, Amy, Susan and Michael. The family made their home in Detroit and in Warren before moving to their home on Sherbeck in Clinton Township. During her years Betty worked for her father's accounting firm and loved being a wife, mother and homemaker. She especially enjoyed gardening, and was always active serving in the life of the Church. The Wahls transferred their membership to Christ the King Lutheran Church on December 21, 1998. Betty and Jerry attended worship each Sunday, and regularly received the Sacrament of the Altar with their fellow believers. She taught Sunday School for countless years, attended Bible Study regularly, and served as a member of Christ the King's Women's Guild. As a personal witness, Betty remembered and encouraged countless fellow believers at Christ the King in their faith through sending cards and notes during illnesses, and remembering them on their birthdays. Her special care for others through her personal card and letter ministry will long be remembered by the people of Christ the King, and will be greatly missed. Betty's health began to gradually decline the last few years, and she submitted to multiple hospitalizations and physical rehab stays in 2015. In January 2016, she continued to become weaker and began to be confined to her bed. She entered hospice care in the winter months, and was lovingly cared for by her family and her assistants Allison and Mari. During these months of confinement, Betty warmly welcomed the visits of her pastor and the celebration of the Lord's Supper, always remaining grateful for the Word of God and the prayers of her fellow believers. She died in the Lord on Sunday April 24 , 2016 at the blessed age of 86 years. Grateful for Betty's life and her baptismal faith are her husband of 65 years Gerald of Clinton Township; her son Michael; Gary (predeceased her in 2013) and her daughters Amy and Susan. Also mourning her death with the hope of the resurrection are her 11 grandchildren and her 4 great grandchildren. She is also remembered by countless neighbors, friends and fellow believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. Her mortal remains will be interred at The Great Lakes National Cemetery in Brighton, MI, where they will await the glorious resurrection of all flesh at The Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in glory. For Betty's baptismal faith and for the many blessings received through her blessed life, we give God thanks today through Jesus Christ our Lord and declare: "To Him be immortal glory, for great things God has done! " Amen. + + + Soli Deo Gloria! + + + Funeral Tuesday, 7 pm, Christ the King Lutheran Church, 20338 Mack Avenue, Grosse Pointe Woods.
