Faye Turner was born February 16, 1918 in Oark, Arkansas to David & Elizabeth Patton. She had one brother and four sisters. Her Dad owned a store and the family lived pretty well until the stock market crashed. They lost their store and began farming. Faye did not like farming at all and once when asked to go pick blackberries and bring back a bucket full, she filled the bottom of the bucket with stones, covered it with thick layers of blackberries. Her mother was very suspicious as soon as she felt the weight of the bucket. Her sisters enjoyed telling many stories like this. She met Lewis at his father's birthday party and thought he was very handsome in his uniform. In April 1943, she took a train to Macon, Georgia to be married and arrived in a blackout not knowing there was also a quarantine on the base where Lewis was stationed. He told that he went "over the wall" to meet her. They married on April 9, 1943 and he returned to his barracks the next morning. When Lewis was discharged, they moved to Detroit, Michigan for Lewis to work for an auto company. The Lord gave them 52 years of marriage. Around 1945, it was necessary for them to move into Lewis' brother Bill's house to care for his 3 children while their father was stationed in the Phillipines. So Faye became an instant mother to 3 young children. When Bill returned, purchased their first home where their only child, Linda, was born. Around 1951, a lady came to the door inviting Faye to come to the little white church on 9 Mile Rd, which was called Faith Baptist Church. Faye had been saved in her early 20's, but was not living for the Lord. Her husband, Lewis, was not saved. She visited and later joined Faith Baptist Church, where she served as a Deaconess, helped with funeral dinners and worked with her daughter who taught the Wednesday class for children ages 4 through 12. Many nights, she held Paul Thieme in her lap and he fell asleep. After years of praying and witnessing, Lewis came to know the Lord at age 84. Faye was a devoted mother and "a cool Mom" to all of Linda's friends. She was always willing to take a car load of them somewhere. Once she allowed Russell (who was 14 years old) to drive her car, which broke down on the road. She never told her husband that she was NOT the driver! She had a great sense of humor illustrated when Russell had his friend knock on the door and get her to come out on the porch so that Russell, who was up on the roof, could drop a stuffed dummy down onto her shoulders! She loved being a Grandma and playing with her 3 grandkids. She would have one of them go down the grocery aisle next to her and throw rolls of paper towels overhead for them to catch. She enjoyed cooking and baking. She could make the BEST apple pie ever and was the Queen of sausage gravy too! She and her travelling companion, Carol Katzmarek, often made trips with Linda and Russell. Her favorite was going to Disney World in Florida and picking oranges right from the tree. She also enjoyed many trips to Arkansas to visit her family. As her 11 great grandchildren came along she was very proud of them too and family times were her very favorite times of all! She was excited all over again when she learned number 12 was on his way. As her condition declined these last few years, she would ask why she was still here and why wouldn't the Lord just take her home? She was ready to meet her Savior and longed to see her loved ones who were waiting there to welcome her to new heavenly home. Her family that is left behind is rejoicing in the knowledge that she had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and trusted in Him for her salvation. Faye was the beloved wife of the late Lewis for 52 years. Loving mother of Linda (Russell) Johns. Treasured grandmother of David (Lisa) Johns, Kevin (Kristen) Johns and Kristen (Mark) Shives. Proud great-grandmother of Braeden, Jocelyn, Kamden, Nathan, Coen, Ian, James, Turner, Josiah, Garen and Titus. Dear sister of the late Roy Patton, Martha Lou Johnson, Helen Fulmer and Juanita Cowan. She is also survived by many caring nieces and nephews. Faye's family will receive friends on Friday, July 10, 2015 from 2:00pm until 8:00pm at the A.H.
