Gail Marie David (nee Turnquist) was born on November 21, 1951, in Traverse City, Michigan. She enjoyed her childhood in “God’s Country,” as she often referred to Northern Michigan. Gail completed high school and went on to take some classes at the local community college before embarking on her career as a legal secretary. She excelled in her job for attorneys in the community and was very proud of her accomplishments in that field.
Gail moved to the Detroit metro area when her brother, a State Trooper, was stationed in Detroit. She decided to get a taste of living in the big city and took an apartment with him. It was during that time that she met her husband to be, George, an attorney. They married on September 21, 1985, and enjoyed 40 years of marriage. Gail gave up her career to raise three great sons. She enjoyed the boys’ baseball and football games and was a doting mother. Her family was her world. She found it rewarding to maintain a beautiful home for her family and was always concerned with making the home a place where they would always return. Gail made everyone that entered her home feel special and welcome. Her sons’ friends always delighted in sampling her cookies and brownies. It was her singular mission in life to make everyone feel the love that she had.
When her parents passed on, Gail inherited their home in Traverse City. She spent the summers there with her husband and encouraged her children to visit and use the home as often as possible. Spending time on the dock and boathouse on West Grand Traverse Bay was her favorite past time. Gail had three beautiful grandchildren and there is another expected in March 2026. She loved the little ones so much and derived such joy in seeing them, especially when they would come to visit in Traverse City.
Gail’s passing was a sudden shock to her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, George, sons, Joseph (Nicole), Gary (Camila) and John (Lauren). Her grandchildren, Lily, Sunny, and Freddie. And will be sorely missed by many extended family and friends. Gail was predeceased by her parents, Ruth and Gordon Turnquist, her sister, Karen Turnquist, and her brother, Gary Turnquist. At her request, there will be no formal service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
Donations to a St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a favorite charity would be a fitting tribute to Gail.
