Irene Parsons passed away on August 8, 2017 at the age of 93. She was born in England on July 21, 1924; daughter of Percy and Annie (nee Rice) Cain. Irene played the saxophone in a big band group named Mary and her Girlfriends. She met Jim Parsons who was also a musician for the Maurice Sheffield Orchestra. The couple fell in love and was married in Glascow, Scotland in October of 1948. The young couple immigrated to North America in 1954, first to Canada, then to the United States where they lived in numerous locations in the metro Detroit area over the years. Irene and Jims love for music was instrumental in their partnership in owning and operating Hewitts music store. Irene loved to bake and was known for delivering goodies to family and friends. Her many interests included sewing and gardening. Her love for numbers led to a successful career in accounting, many of which were spent at the Girl Scouts of Metro Detroit where she developed many close friendships. Since she had no children of her own, Irene loved spending time with her nephews Robert Preston, Peter Steven Cain (Leanne), David Cain, and the late Russell (Karen) Preston. She enjoyed watching her great-nieces and nephews grow up and organized frequent gatherings in order to cook and spend time with them. She will be dearly missed by Brooke, Elizabeth, Adam, Courtney, Rachel, Jordan, Caitlyn, and Olivia. She was predeceased by her loving husband Jim in 2000. Mrs. Parsons family will receive guests on Monday from 9:00 am until the time in which we celebrate her life at 10:00 am at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the American Red Cross for hurricane relief.
