She was born on October 16, 1943 in Montclair, NJ to Genevieve and Thomas Collins, graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from the College of Elizabeth and went on to earn her Master's Degree in Reading from Seton Hall University. A beloved teacher for over 30 years, Jackie followed in a long line of distinguished educators. Jackie and her late husband, Dr. Albert F. Johann, Jr., raised their family in Ridgewood, NJ and after he passed she lived in the Murray Hill section of Manhattan where she enjoyed herself very much. Jackie then moved to Grosse Pointe Farms in 2008 to be near her three daughters. Among her many volunteer efforts including being a docent at the historical Zabriskie house in Wyckoff, NJ, Mrs. Johann started the Friends of the Library in Ridgewood, NJ with two friends, all of whom had a love of reading and found critical importance in creating a strong library system for the residents of Ridgewood. She continued to spend time at the Grosse Pointe libraries and enjoyed her mornings with her grandchildren at the story time program. Mrs. Johann, a lifelong Junior League member, was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Detroit and quickly became an active member, enjoying many special days with the Junior League. She recently was welcomed by the Children of Mary at The Grosse Pointe Academy and loved her days of spiritual connection in The Grosse Pointe Academy Chapel. Jackie is survived by those she loved most, her daughters Jennifer Kendall (Sean), Nancy Cotton (Sean) and Kathryn Johann and her grandchildren, Jack and Molly Kendall and Colin and Teddy Cotton. She is also survived by her beloved sisters Ann and Mary, and her brother, Edward. She spent every available moment with her children and grandchildren and was so generous with her time and love. She truly knew what was most important in life and was quite inspiring to all those who knew her. She recently shared a beautiful quote with her family and friends, "There are so many gifts I can give those I love, but the one that lingers when all the others are gone, the one that knits the brightest threads into life, is the gift of time- the gift of oneself." Sue Monk Kidd She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her and remembered forever in a million different ways.
