1956 – 1965 She started her career at the Detroit Board of Education as an administrative assistant (research & statistics) and upon graduating from Wayne State University in 1962, began her teaching career at Detroit Denby High School.
1965 – 1994 She taught in the Grosse Pointe School System for 39 years at both South and North High Schools.
1970 – 1972 Wayne County Community College Teacher (part-time), Comparative Literature.
Her innovative teaching style was evident as she was paramount in creating new classes such as Humanities and American Studies. She created the “Imprint” magazine at Grosse Pointe South, which allowed student writers, photographers and artists share their works. She consulted with other school districts to create similar magazines for their students (including her own grandchildren’s school). Of all of her interests and compassions, her biggest love was her family.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Michael Wayne and William Koch. She was proud of her children Jean Ellerbrock (Mark), Michael Wayne (Panagiota), and Theresa Koch Lynn. She adored her grandchildren Ken Ellerbrock, Katy (Jon) Klimczuk, Mihali Wayne and William Lynn. She was the great-grandmother of Lucy, Hudson, and Matthew.
Due to the current resurgence of the Covid-19 Pandemic (Omicron), the family wishes to have only immediate members at a church service. A “Celebration of Life Gathering,” with family and friends will be held later this year (date to be determined) to honor Jane Eva Koch.
